**The problem it solves** Italy's tourist tax, the imposta di soggiorno, is set municipality by municipality. Around 1,400 comuni apply it, each with its own rates, exemptions and caps, and the rules are revised most years. Booking and check-in software has no single reference for what a given stay owes. In January 2026 the Court of Cassation (Sezioni Unite, ordinanza 1527) classified the accommodation manager as a party liable for the tax, which raises the cost of calculating it wrongly. **What StayLex does** StayLex is an API that returns the tourist tax due for a specific stay. Callers send the municipality, property type, dates and guest ages, and receive the amount owed along with any exemptions that apply. **How it works** Each rate, night cap and exemption is taken from the municipal act that sets it: the delibera for amounts, the regolamento for caps and exemptions. Every response cites that act and the date the rate was last checked. The service also documents what it does not cover, such as per-guest caps that require guest history. **Who it's for** Property management systems, channel managers and online check-in platforms serving Italian accommodation. It is sold as a monthly licence sized to the property portfolio.
