France has 63 STR providers. Here is what makes this market different.

France runs one of the most self-contained short-term-rental markets in Europe. When people picture the STR ecosystem they mostly mean the global, English-language stack: Guesty, PriceLabs, Airbnb. France built its own. Of the providers in the STR Market Map database, 63 are headquartered there, and the number is not the story. The shape of the stack is.

What the data shows

Three patterns that set the French market apart.

Distribution: 13 domestic booking platforms.

Maeva, PAP Vacances, HomeExchange, Mediavacances, Le Collectionist. Many predate Airbnb and still command real booking volume with French travelers, who often book through names that never appear in global STR roundups.

Operations: France builds for its own regulation.

6 insurance and deposit companies plus 3 dedicated tax and compliance tools. LMNP status, meublé de tourisme declarations, and strict caution requirements created categories that barely exist elsewhere: Swikly, Safebooking, Gritchen, Fluxia, Short Rental Manager. Germany, a market of similar size, has almost none of this.

Management: 9 local PMS platforms, almost all French-first.

Superhote, Smily, GererMesLocs, MisterBooking, RentalReady. International tools are available, but French operators often choose local software for language, support, and French-specific requirements.

Local vs international, by category

Each bar is one category. The teal share is providers headquartered in France; the rest is the international providers that also serve France. France competes hardest where the rules are local: insurance, tax, and compliance. In booking, PMS, and smart home, the global players dominate. Click any bar to open that category on the live map.
